The Common Alder (Alnus glutinosa) tree widely seen in the countryside thrives in moist to wet and marshy ground and is a common inhabitant along rivers and streams. Nodules on the roots of the Alder tree harbour bacteria that fix nitrogen allowing it to thrive and flourish in wet areas, making it a valuable species for enriching poor wet ground. The Alder is considered a "core magical tree" with many magical as well as medicinal properties.

The Alder bares a pretty woody fruit that looks very similar to small cones.

The current height of our Alder trees is approximately 30-50cm and they can be planted out all year round. The Common Alder can grow up to 20m but is generally not considered a big tree.

  • Plant in wet, dry and exposed sites
  • Likes most moist soil types
  • Thrives by river banks and streams
  • Spread across the British Isles

Would order again.

Delivery was by Royal Mail so the box was a bit bashed when it arrived and 1 of the trees not looking great.

A dispatch email with tracking would be great for future orders.

Considering how many miles my orders travelled it arrived in good condition and the little trees roots were in draw string bags with plenty of moisture for their journey.
Definitely recommend.

Very Healthy Trees

I was a little nervous about ordering through the post in the summer but the trees were in excellent condition when they arrived. It enabled us to get on and plant now rather than having to wait until the season for planting bare rooted, thereby gaining an extra season's growth.
